Before you put away your swim gear as the weather cools down, consider the benefits of year-round swimming and how it can impact your little ones. We hear Life gets hectic, schedules get packed, and you have to decide how necessary it is to keep your little ones in the pool week after week. And while you know our answer will always be, “Yes, they should still be in class,” you may not know all the reasons why. So we’re happy to share a few.
Children are exposed to water all year round
The CDC states that drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death in children ages 1 to 12, and this fact goes beyond seasonal constraints. Children are exposed to water every day, and the reality is that it only takes two inches of water and 4 seconds for a drowning to occur.
Think beyond summer swim sessions at beaches and pools; kids are around water in every season. Parks or trails often have ponds, lakes or streams on their grounds.Baths, toilets and sinks are still there. Bodies of water and buckets of water also pose a risk of water-related incidents. Continuing swimming lessons in the winter and throughout the year will help your children develop their relationship with water, giving them a healthy respect and establishing necessary boundaries when in and around it.
Children need to learn water safety skills all year round
We know how quickly the years go by and as a caregiver, you strive to provide your little ones with a well-rounded education, including extracurricular activities. Sports, music lessons, foreign languages… the list of skills they can learn is endless. However,Swimming lessons are more than an extracurricular activity. It’s one of the few lessons that can save your child’s life, even as an adult. Plus, year-round swimming for kids has been shown to have brain benefits and advances in learning patterns, better social and relationship skills, and goal development. We encourage you to consider water safety education as a no-questions-asked, essential part of your child’s education, just like traditional parenting, manners, and eating vegetables. Because swimming is an invaluable life skill. Plain and simple.
Practice improves when children swim year-round
Retention is a funny thing, isn’t it? Teachers bid students farewell at the end of the school year, tactfully Begging parents to continue reading, writing, and math practice with their children. Why? Because they know that in just a few weeks, skill regression will occur if practice goes out the window. The same goes for swim lessons. You’ve seen your child progress (and you’re so proud of it!), but taking them out of swim lessons, even for a few months, can cause regression and increase the time it will take for you to get them back on track. And water safety has no room for regression when consistent practice can make such life-saving progress. In fact,We recommend swimming lessons several days a weekall year round to our Aqua-Tots families.
At Aqua-Tots Swim Schools, we know the many directions you’re pulled in and the many demands that fill your day. That’s why we’re here to keep that swim lesson plate spinning for you. We’ll take care of the swim lessons, make scheduling easy, and even provide a place for a little respite while your child is in class so you can tackle all the other amazing memory-making moments. We’re in this together. See you at the pool.
